Health Care Partnerships

Michigan Cancer Consortium

Michigan Cancer Consortium

The Michigan Cancer Consortium is a broad-based, state-wide partnership that aims to reduce the burden of cancer among the citizens of Michigan. The MCC provides a central forum for leadership in cancer control to encourage collaboration among public and private organizations to achieve the Consortium's research-based and results-oriented cancer prevention and control priorities.

The Michigan Quality Improvement Consortium

The Michigan Quality Improvement Consortium is a collaborative effort by physicians and others from Michigan health maintenance organizations, the Michigan State Medical Society, the Michigan Osteopathic Association, the Michigan Association of Health Plans, the Michigan Peer Review Organization and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan.

The Michigan Quality Improvement Consortium

The consortium uses a collaborative approach to develop and implement common guidelines for the treatment of common conditions as well as performance measures to show how often the guidelines are being used. The guidelines support the delivery of consistent, evidence-based health care services that will improve health outcomes for Michigan patients.

The consortium has developed evidence-based practice guidelines for the treatment of diabetes, asthma, depression, heart failure and tobacco control. Additionally, physician tools designed to support systematic compliance with the MQIC guidelines are also provided.

Michigan Health & Safety Coalition

Michigan Health & Safety Coalition

The Michigan Health and Safety Coalition focuses on improving patient safety in Michigan. Members include Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan, professional and provider organizations, consumers, purchaser groups and the Michigan Department of Community Health.

Blue Cross chaired MH&SC from its founding in 2000 through 2008 and continues in a leadership role. Since inception, MH&SC has been working to achieve its vision that "everyone knows their health care is safe." It has led the State Commission on Patient Safety. The commission's report to the governor outlines how to improve patient safety in Michigan — steps being implemented by the state today.

MH&SC has convened several statewide patient safety conferences. MH&SC also conducts annual hospital surveys, leading to a partnership with the Leapfrog Group. That organization measures and reports on national hospital quality and safety standards (PDF).
