Dental coverage through your employer

With Blue Dental^SM plans, you can save money by choosing a network dentist. Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan uses the DenteMax** network, one of the largest and most cost-effective networks in the country. Check with your employer today to learn which of the Blue Dental coverage options below are available to you.

Traditional Plus Dental

Traditional Plus Dental covers preventive services such as oral exams, teeth cleaning and X-rays; restorative services such as fillings, crowns and root canals; and construction of bridges and dentures. Depending on your plan, it may also cover orthodontic services.

With Traditional Plus Dental you have the freedom to choose any dentist. Network dentist or not, you're covered and the copayment is the same. Most out-of-network dentists accept our approved amount, plus any deductible or copay from you, as payment in full. Network dentists offer an even better value. If you visit an out-of-network dentist who doesn't participate with BCBSM, you'll have to pay any difference between our approved amount and your dentist's charges.

Traditional Plus Preventive Dental

Traditional Plus Preventive Dental covers only preventive services — including oral exams, bitewing X-rays, full-mouth and panoramic X-rays, teeth cleaning, fluoride treatment and space maintainers.

Traditional Plus Preventive Dental, like Traditional Plus, gives you the freedom to choose any in- or out-of-network dentist. Network dentist or not, you're covered and the copayment is the same.

Community Dental

Community Dental covers preventive services such as oral exams, teeth cleaning and X-rays; restorative services such as fillings, crowns and root canals; and construction of bridges and dentures. Depending on your plan, it may also cover orthodontic services.

With Community Dental, you can choose to go to a network dentist or an out-of-network dentist. If you choose a network dentist, your copay will be lower. If you choose an out-of-network dentist, you'll still be covered, but your copay will be higher.

Exclusive Dental

Exclusive Dental covers preventive services such as oral exams, teeth cleaning and X-rays; restorative services such as fillings, crowns and root canals; and construction of bridges and dentures. Depending on your plan, it may also cover orthodontic services.

Exclusive Dental maximizes savings for our members. You must see a network dentist in order for services to be covered. If you don't go to a network dentist, you must pay all costs.

Blue Dental Choice^SM

Blue Dental Choice covers preventive services such as oral exams, teeth cleaning and X-rays; restorative services such as fillings, crowns and root canals; and construction of bridges and dentures. Depending on your plan, it may also cover orthodontic services.

Blue Dental Choice is a voluntary dental plan where members pay the monthly premiums. Like Traditional Plus Dental, you have the freedom to choose any in- or out-of-network dentist. Network dentist or not, you're covered and the copayment is the same. To keep premiums affordable, participating dentists are paid at the lower network rate.
